About Capo Valley Wrestling
Thank You for stopping on the Capistrano (Capo) Valley HS Wrestling Team website. We’d like to take a moment to introduce you to the program and hopefully convince you to stop on by and lend a helping hand in whatever way you can.
History
Capo Valley High School was founded in 1977 and has been recognized as one of the top 2.5% of high schools across the United States. In addition to outstanding academics, athletics has always been a strong tradition at Capo Valley with accomplished football, basketball, baseball, swimming and soccer programs producing CIF champions, finalists and semi-finalists regularly. Wrestling also has a tradition of SUCCESS at Capo Valley since its inception and has produced a multitude of League, Regional, Southern California, and California State placers over the past 40-plus years. In fact, the wrestling program won Capo's first ever League Championship. Capo has 87 CIF Placers (incl. 21 champs), 34 Masters Placers (incl 5 champs) and 10 State Placers (incl. 2x champ Mike Phillips). In more recent years Capo Valley's wrestling program has had at least one CIF champion for 7 consecutive years, including 11 Champions in that time (a total of 21 placers in just the last 7 years), and 7 Masters placers in the last 7 years (1 champ); additionally the program is a perenially top ten team in our CIF. Our Girls program, although a fairly new program, has taken off in the last couple of seasons. Starting with just 2 girls 6 years ago, we finished 2020 with 11 and we have 15 incoming frosh girls signed up to add to our returning 8. The successes have ramped up just as fast as the participation numbers; we had 3 masters qualifiers in our first 4 seasons, however, in the last two years we had 6 each year. Couple that with having our first two CIF finalists this past season and several ladies making it to the blood round at Masters this year; our girls team is on the verge of having its first state qualifiers!
Mission
Supported by the Capo Valley Wrestling Boosters, a 501(c)3 non-profit, it is the mission of the CVHS Wrestling Team to provide strong instruction and athletic training and to also help prepare the young men and women entrusted to us with a strong sense of ethics that is supported by hard work, dedication, and confidence.
Wrestling is one of the greatest crucibles through which to learn successful life habits. Through participation in wrestling, athletes learn solid work habits which prepare them for the challenges of life. They learn how to adjust to success and failure, pressure and stress, how to overcome and persevere, how to deal with discomfort, and how to work hard.
